Can I rent an island in Indonesia?

There are more 17.000 islands in Indonesia, from the big islands like Sumatera, Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi or Papua to the little one like in Kepulauan Seribu in the north of Jakarta. Sometimes, you will found an advertising like this: "FOR RENT Siloinak island!" or "Macan island for rent only US$700 per weeek". If you have some money, you can do that. You can rent an island that you want in Indonesia. Is it a simple thing?

An island like as a property. The owner can use, build or rent it pursuant to Indonesian law or government regulations. For Indonesian citizen it is not a problem. But, if you are a foreigner you must consult with the lawyers or legal consultants. Rent for one day, one week or one month, it is no problem for both local citizen or a foreigner.

An exclusive resort built in an island usually. As the other country, local citizen or a foreigner can rent and enjoy whole island for yourself and your guests like a British super soccer player, David Beckam and his wife Victoria celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary a few week ago in Necker island, British Virgin Island (Carrebean).
